"Climate Expert Says NASA Tried to Silence Him"
By ANDREW C. REVKIN
Published: January 29, 2006
http://www.nytimes.com

"In several interviews with The New York Times in recent days, Dr. Hansen said it would be irresponsible not to speak out, particularly because NASA's mission statement includes the phrase 'to understand and protect our home planet.'

He said he was particularly incensed that the directives had come through telephone conversations and not through formal channels, leaving no significant trails of documents.

Dr. Hansen's supervisor, Franco Einaudi, said there had been no official 'order or pressure to say shut Jim up.' But Dr. Einaudi added, 'That doesn't mean I like this kind of pressure being applied.'

The fresh efforts to quiet him, Dr. Hansen said, began in a series of calls after a lecture he gave on Dec. 6 at the annual meeting of the American Geophysical Union in San Francisco. In the talk, he said that significant emission cuts could be achieved with existing technologies, particularly in the case of motor vehicles, and that without leadership by the United States, climate change would eventually leave the earth 'a different planet.'

The administration's policy is to use voluntary measures to slow, but not reverse, the growth of emissions.

Bush Lets U.S. Spy on Callers Without Courts - New York Times

~~~ The NY Times has an extensive article today on the Bush team again forgetting that a Democracy is a place where the Government does not spy on its citizens with out first getting a Court order. This is major news , but unless Congress raises a stink and starts hearings , it will pass under the radar of most voters.
I have to keep saying to myself -
FOXNews.com - Politics - White House Staff Begins Ethics Classes: "ASHINGTON — Mandatory ethics classes began for White House staff on Tuesday, the direct result, according to White House aides, of the indictment and resignation of former vice presidential chief of staff I. Lewis 'Scooter' Libby.
Libby was indicted 10 days ago for perjury and obstruction of justice charges in the CIA leak case.
A directive memo went out last week to the more than 3,000 White House staffers announcing the sessions. The classes are being conducted by the White House counsel's office."
By William F. Buckley Jr. Tue Nov 1, 8:11 PM ET
The hot-blooded search for criminality in the matter of Cheney/Libby/Rove has not truly satisfied those in search of first-degree venality. Very soon after the indictment of Mr. Libby, the tricoteuses glumly conceded that no conspiracy has been uncovered. It is not alleged that Mr. Cheney whispered to Mr. Libby that he should conceal the truth from the grand jury or the special prosecutor. The great blast of publicity came from the technical exposure of Mr. Libby to (in his case, at his age) a life term in jail, plus a million-odd-dollar fine. If John Jones is hauled in and word is given out that if found guilty he will be hanged and his severance pay confiscated, the public's attention will be drawn to his crime even if it was to double park.
"The great question here is Robert Novak. It was he who published, in his column, that Mrs. Joseph Wilson was a secret agent of the CIA.
I am too close a friend to pursue the matter with Novak, and his loyalty is a postulate. What was going on? If there are mysteries in town, that surely is one of them, the role of Novak."
"What is Cuban President Fidel Castro's secret?"
posted 09/04, by bocamp22 http://www.e-thepeople.org/article/41632/view
Last September, a Category 5 hurricane battered the small island of Cuba with 160-mile-per-hour winds. More than 1.5 million Cubans were evacuated to higher ground ahead of the storm. Although the hurricane destroyed 20,000 houses, no one died.
What is Cuban President Fidel Castro's secret? According to Dr. Nelson Valdes, a sociology professor at the University of New Mexico, and specialist in Latin America, 'the whole civil defense is embedded in the community to begin with. People know ahead of time where they are to go.'
'Cuba's leaders go on TV and take charge,' said Valdes. Contrast this with George W. Bush's reaction to Hurricane Katrina. The day after Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, Bush was playing golf. He waited three days to make a TV appearance and five days before visiting the disaster site. In a scathing editorial on Thursday, the New York Times said, 'nothing about the president's demeanor yesterday - which seemed casual to the point of carelessness - suggested that he understood the depth of the current crisis.' "U.S. Sells the Most Weapons to Others"
"Developing countries are the weapons' primary buyers. And the U.S. has been the most active seller for the past eight years, resulting mainly from agreements made in the aftermath of the first Gulf War.
The U.S. was responsible for more than 42 percent of the deliveries to developing nations in 2004.
Russia, which ranks second, sells mostly to China and India, as well as a number of smaller, poorer countries.
The CRS study, which is done each year, was written by national defense specialist Richard Grimmett.
Hallmark of Bush presidency: control over information flow
By Pat M. Holt
WASHINGTON – Disagreements with President Johnson over the Vietnam War drove Congress to circumscribe the powers of the presidency so much that when Johnson left the White House in 1969, it was said it would take until the end of the century to restore those lost powers. Thanks to a succession of weak presidents, the end of the century arrived without much having been done in this respect.
Richard Nixon, impeached by the House over Watergate, resigned to avoid trial by the Senate. Gerald Ford was unable to deal with the mess Nixon left. Despite the considerable accomplishment of the Camp David accord making peace between Egypt and Israel, Jimmy Carter was weakened by the hostage crisis in Iran and the botched rescue attempt. Ronald Reagan and his vice president, George H.W. Bush, had the Iran-contra scandal. For Bill Clinton, it was Monica Lewinsky and an impeachment trial (he was acquitted)."
Reporters must testify in CIA leak probe
BY TOM BRUNEWASHINGTON BUREAU
February 16, 2005
WASHINGTON -- A U.S. appeals court ruled Tuesday that two reporters must testify before a federal grand jury about their confidential sources in a probe trying to determine who in the Bush administration leaked the identity of a covert CIA officer.
In an expected ruling, a three-judge panel of the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously upheld a lower court ruling that held in contempt Matthew Cooper of Time magazine and Judith Miller of The New York Times for refusing to testify.
Time and the Times Tuesday said
---- { what an intereresting pharse, almost poetic ~~tp ] ---- they would appeal the decision to the full circuit and possibly the Supreme Court, and would seek a stay to keep the reporters out of jail.
The publications had tried to quash the subpoenas based on the First Amendment and reporters' privilege to protect confidential sources under federal common law, which is based on practice than on statutes.
In October, District Judge Thomas Hogan ruled against them.The decision prompted calls from Floyd Abrams, attorney for both reporters, and groups such as Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, for Congress to enact a federal shield law to permit reporters to protect confidential sources.
BUT I CHALLENGE anyone to produce a documented instance , that Bill Clinton ever lied to the American public in the matters of War & Peace ~` by ~ TP
` `Comment below next article ~~ ` TP
By PAUL NOWELL, Associated Press Writer
February 1, 2005
"Helms Pleads to Keep Clinton Out of U.N."
CHARLOTTE, N.C - They may both be out of office, but Bill Clinton - remains the ultimate boogeyman for former Sen. Jesse Helms. In a fund-raising a letter for his senatorial library, Helms invokes the specter of the former president leading the United Nations after Kofi Annan retires next year.
"I'm sure you might agree that putting a left-wing, undisciplined and ethically challenged former President of the United States into a position of such power would be a tragic mistake," wrote the 83-year-old Republican, who left office in 2003 after five terms. >>>>>>
~ ~ ~ Bill Clinton balanced the budget mess he inherited from the Reagan- Bush administrations.
Bill tried to get the Insurance companies out of health care.
Mr. Clinton was the first US President not to overthrow every little western hemisphere country who did not tow the American business interests line.
And Bill Clinton is still much better respected in the Global community that any American President of the past generation. { And certainly better than the Dubuya Bush or his Dad]
Okay , so he lied about a personal matter of intimate relations.
A point that was so distantly tangential to the Whitewater investigation that it was simply a Ken Starr sham.
Bill Clinton did not lie about committing a criminal act , but simply a human act , one that people lie about -- in grossly huge numbers -- everyday.
[As a matter of fact it is often good etiquette to lie on this topic. I, for one, never liked folks who kiss and tell. ]
BUT I CHALLENGE anyone to produce a documented instance , that Bill Clinton ever lied to the American public in the matters of War & Peace , or even Jobs & Interest Rates.
Mr. Clinton on Foreign & Domestic Policy issues was the most forthcoming and honest President this nation ever had. That is not to say I agree with everything he said.
But at least when I came home at the end of the day to watch the news, I knew the President of the United States was shooting strait with me.
As opposed to the “Reagan – Bush I – BUSH II – Dick Chaney” team and their formalized policies of Dis-Information that they feed to the American Public and to the world each & every day.
Bill Clinton has got my vote UN Secretary General,, and I predict here today he will get that Job after Kofi Annon leaves. ~~
